Unit #2 Targets
1. You will know the vocabulary associated with this unit and how each word connects to the important ideas.
2. You will be able to define Classical Civilizations and throughout the unit justify Ancient Greece fitting into this definition by creating a list of the contributions they have made.
3. You will know about Ancient Greek religion and analyze their most important gods and goddesses and their concept of mythology to find out more about their belief system.
4. You will create a poster over a Greek god or goddess that will display their importance to the Greek people and their connection to the belief system.
5. You will understand the characteristics of Ancient Greek culture that make it a distinct civilization- including language, literature, art, architecture, history, and drama. You will make connections to how they impact us today.
6. You will know about the concept of Ancient Greek philosophy and its big names. In the end you will
analyze the conflict between philosophy and religion during this time.
7. You will know the geographic location of Ancient Greece and understand the impact it had on the civilization.
8. You will know about the Ancient Greeks by understanding the early people who set the foundation for the civilization- Minoan, Mycenaean, and Age of Homer.
9. You will understand the differences between the forms of government from Ancient Greece and how they shaped this civilization and had a lasting impact on us today.
10.You will understand the rise of city-states in Ancient Greece and be able to compare and contrast the important city-states of Athensand Sparta.
11.You will know about the conflicts fought by the Ancient Greek people and understand their impacts on the civilization- Trojan War, Persian War, and Peloponnesian War.
12.You will understand the circumstances surrounding the rise of Alexander the Great and his conquest of an empire.
13.You will know the lasting legacy of Alexander the Great and the development of the Hellenistic Civilization.
14.You will know the 7 Wonders of the World as created by the Ancient Greeks.
15.You will be able to identify on a map where the topics from the unit are located.
